BIO

Sarah Mayhew currently teaches photography at Sierra College in Rocklin, California and also works in the Design Department at the University of California at Davis. She has been working in the darkroom since the age of 11 as her mother was also a photographer. She grew up on Martha's Vineyard Island surrounded by the natural beauty of the island's landscape. Her work is constantly influenced by her childhood curiosity and observation of nature in that setting. After working on landscapes for a period of time, working at a more intimate level (still life) came next. Playing with light and the illusion of space brought forth the 2 bodies of work, Chromatic Abstractions (her first body of color work) and Refracted Illuminations.
